Wellington College International Hangzhou

Wellington College International Hangzhou works hard to create a caring, international community that develops well-rounded individuals.

Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, is renowned as one of the Eight Ancient Capitals of China. The city is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and its West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In contrast to its ancient past, Hangzhou is also recognised as China’s premier high‑tech hub—often called the “Silicon Valley of the East”—driven by a powerful digital economy. This dynamic environment attracts a diverse international community to Wellington College International Hangzhou, which opened in 2018 as part of a large education campus that also includes a bilingual school and a separate, purpose‑built nursery.

The school was recognised as a Beacon School Status for governance and Values and Ethos during it’s COBIS accreditation and works hard to create a caring, international community on the outskirts of this beautiful city.

Meet the Master

The school is led by Ms Kath Richardson, who has led schools internationally for 12 years, in China and in the Middle East. Ms Richardson was recently awarded the International School Leading Master Award in China by Kinglead.

She is passionate about school improvement and academic excellence and is looking forward to seeing the first cohort of A Level pupils achieve their full potential and attend top universities worldwide.

Ms Richardson enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures.

“Our child has gained more and more confidence over her time at Wellington College International Hangzhou. She has been highly motivated to improve in each lesson. The whole atmosphere is very welcoming, and she quickly found good friends.”
