Abbie and Paul’s Visit to WCI China

Abbie Watts, International Business Development Manager, and Paul Vanni, International Director, recently visited Wellington College International Hangzhou, Hiba Academy Hangzhou, Wellington College International Shanghai, and the early years provision at Hiba Academy Shanghai. Their tour provided a comprehensive overview of the world-class facilities at these campuses, including advanced science labs, state-of-the-art STEM facilities, recently refurbished catering areas, and impressive sports grounds, all set within urban environments.

Reflecting on her first trip to China, Abbie was impressed by the school campuses, the grandeur of the cities, and the newness of the downtowns. She found everyone to be incredibly friendly and welcoming.

During their visit, Abbie and Paul engaged in meaningful discussions with Kath Richardson and Brendon Fulton, Masters of WCI Hangzhou and WCI Shanghai, respectively, as well as Charlotte Knight-Benjafield, Executive Head of Early Years. These engagements offered significant insights into the vision for international education in China.

A notable highlight of their trip was the opportunity to meet Roni Asp (OW), who is currently undertaking an internship at Wellington College International Hangzhou as part of his gap year. Although it was early in his internship, Roni’s enthusiasm was evident, and he seems to be enjoying the experience.

Interacting with the students from our international schools was particularly rewarding for Abbie and Paul. They found the students to be incredibly warm and welcoming, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. The students’ confidence was evident in their articulate conversations and insightful questions, showcasing their strong communication skills and self-assuredness. Moreover, the high aspirations and ambitions of these young learners were truly inspiring. Abbie and Paul were impressed by the students’ clear goals for their future academic endeavours, reflecting a deep commitment to personal growth and excellence.

This visit highlights Wellington College International’s commitment to delivering exceptional educational experiences and strengthening relationships across all our campuses. The insights gained from this trip will undoubtedly contribute to the continued development and success of our international education initiatives.
