AI is the single biggest change impacting schools since the introduction of universal public education.
AI is reshaping every aspect of our lives, changing the world we are preparing young people for, performing increasingly complex and sophisticated tasks that have been considered uniquely human domains until now. It is improving exponentially and has already reshaped the education landscape as pupils, staff and parents all use AI in a growing variety of ways.
The AI Institute at Wellington College is responsible for steering the strategy and use of AI within Wellington schools, connecting the rapidly changing global AI landscape to the specific needs and implications in schools, aligned to school priorities and the pursuit to improve pupil experience and education outcomes.
The Institute acts as a convener and catalyst to bring leading voices, practitioners and researchers together to work on pilots, research policy and implementation, helping all schools make faster progress by developing a better understanding of AI impacts schools in the real world.
New technologies always create new opportunities and new risks. The AI Institute works to pursue the transformational potential of AI while minimising risks. By being anchored in schools, the AI Institute combines real school experience with research, industry and partnership to find and test best practices, evaluate hypotheses and advance the sector more quickly.
