Wellington College International celebrates the success of the inaugural Wellington College Family Quiz, a five-week online competition that united teams from five schools and showcased the intellectual curiosity, teamwork, and friendly rivalry that define our global community.
Competing across two time zones, mixed pupil-and-staff teams from Wellington College (UK), Wellington College International Shanghai, Hiba Academy Nantong, Wellington College Tianjin, and Hiba Academy Shanghai logged in each week for quick-fire rounds on World Affairs, STEM, Arts & Culture, and a surprise “Wildcard” category that kept every scoreline in play. Correct answers earned immediate points, lightning-fast responses picked up speed bonuses, and a final wager question gave each fixture a dramatic finish.
After four matches and a closely fought finale, Wellington College UK emerged as the first champions of the series. Their consistency, depth of knowledge highlighted by an 18-point surge in the decisive Wildcard round—secured the trophy and well-earned bragging rights across the Wellington College Education network.
Wellington College International extends warm thanks to Quizmaster Mike Yuan, whose question-writing, scheduling, and technical oversight ensured a seamless experience, and to the many teachers and support staff who moderated chats, verified scores, and encouraged pupils on both sides of the screen. Their combined efforts transformed an experimental idea into a fixture that participants are already eager to repeat.
Plans for a second season are under way, with additional international schools expressing interest.
