Wellington College International Announces New School in Kenya as Part of Pan‑African Expansion

Wellington College Education (WCE) has announced the launch of Wellington College International Kenya, marking a significant milestone in its growing presence across Africa. The new co-educational day and boarding school is set to open in September 2028 in Tatu City, near Nairobi, in partnership with Rendeavour, Africa’s leading new city builder.

This development represents WCE’s second school on the continent with Rendeavour, following the earlier announcement of Wellington College International Lagos, and signals a clear commitment to building a network of world-class educational institutions across Africa.

A Major Step Towards a Pan-African Network
The Kenya launch forms part of a broader vision to establish a connected, Pan‑African family of schools spanning both East and West Africa. By expanding into Kenya, Wellington College Education aims to bring together students and educators through shared values, collaboration and global opportunity.

Kenya has been strategically selected due to its strong economic growth, advanced digital infrastructure and increasing role as a hub for international investment. The school’s location in Tatu City—Kenya’s first operational Special Economic Zone—places it within a thriving, master-planned urban environment designed to attract businesses, families and global talent. Students at Wellington College International Kenya will become part of an extensive international network spanning Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. This will enable access to global collaborations, cultural exchanges and the prestigious Old Wellingtonian alumni community.

A World-Class Campus for Future-Ready Education
The new campus will accommodate up to 1,500 students aged 3 to 18 and is being designed as a cutting-edge environment that blends modern innovation with Kenya’s cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Facilities will include advanced laboratories and technology-enabled learning spaces, placing artificial intelligence, digital literacy and innovation at the centre of the academic experience. The school will follow the English National Curriculum, culminating in A Levels, while also incorporating Wellington College’s global work in AI and human flourishing.

WCI Kenya will also offer:

World-class performing arts facilities, including rehearsal studios and performance venues
Elite sports infrastructure, featuring a 50-metre Olympic-standard swimming pool, athletics track and training zones
Dedicated wellbeing and pastoral centres to support students’ personal development
Exceptional boarding houses designed to foster independence, community and personal growth.
Together, these elements aim to create one of the most ambitious and comprehensive school environments in East Africa.

Leadership Vision
Senior leaders from both organisations highlighted the importance of the project in shaping future education across the region.

James Dahl, Master of Wellington College, said the new school will:

“expand the global family of schools and create powerful new opportunities for connection, collaboration and innovation.”
Stephen Jennings, Founder and CEO of Rendeavour, emphasised the unique opportunity the school presents:

“A world class British education is now available in one of the most beautiful and dynamic countries in the world.
Sir Anthony Seldon, Founding Director of Wellington College Education, added that the school will:

“redefine education in East Africa, leading the way in AI, human flourishing and character development.”
